Ako i te reo Rangatira - Bilingual Education
REO RUA EDUCATION
At Portland School – Te Kura o Tikorangi, we are proud to offer bilingual learning pathways that nurture language, identity, culture, and belonging. Our Level 2 and Level 3 Māori language classrooms provide rich learning environments where ākonga learn through a strong Te Ao Māori lens, grounded in tikanga Māori and te reo Māori.
Our bilingual programmes support tamariki to stand proudly within both te ao Māori and te ao whānui. Through the integration of mātauranga Māori, waiata, pūrākau, local histories, and tikanga, students strengthen their cultural identity and connection to the world around them.
A key strength of our kura is our localised curriculum, where the stories, people, history, and environment of our local area are authentically woven throughout teaching and learning. We believe meaningful learning begins with connection — to whenua, whakapapa, language, and community.
Guided by our kura values of Manaaki, Kaitiaki, Pono, and Kawenga, we strive to create a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment where every child is empowered to thrive and achieve success as themselves.
“He waka eke noa – We are all in this together.”
